Poem of Stutterers: I'm Frustrated

I sound different.
Sometimes it takes me longer to say what I need to say.
I’m not stupid.
I’m thinking clearly.
I get frustrated sometimes.
But I’m not retarded.
Don’t ask to speak to someone else.
I can help you.

My response might take longer to get out, but I can answer your question.
What I have to say is valuable.
Yes, I know my name.
No, I’m not tired.
Yes, I know I sound funny.
Yes, I’m sure.
I don’t need your help.
That’s not what I was going to say.
I’m thinking clearly.
My mind works quickly.
But don’t tell me to slow down.
Be patient with me, I’m frustrated.
No, there’s no “cure” online.
Yes, I’ve been to speech therapy.
For 8 years, actually.
Yes, I know you’re surprised.
Sorry, I don’t need your advice.
20 years and I would know by now.
Maybe I sound irritated, bitter even.
Maybe I am a little bit.
But just be patient with me.
I’m frustrated.
